Summer
The summer cultural agenda in Provence follows the sunny days with an extremely rich program.
Among our favorites you will surely find the Aix-en-Provence Festival which brings the city to life in July at the same time as the Avignon Festival.
But there is something for everyone: the F1 Grand Prix at Le Castellet, the Economic Meetings in Aix, the suggestive International Piano Festival at Roque d'Anthéron.
The Lavender Festivals in Valensole and its surroundings are the best opportunity to soak up the magic of this flower, symbol of the Provencal countryside.
Autumn
Autumn in Provence is always mild and rich in openings. This fall 2019 will see the inauguration of exhibitions of “Man Ray and fashion” at the Château Borély in Marseille and the MuCEM will open an exhibition dedicated to Giono. Still in Marseille, the Regards de Provence museum for its part will offer its rooms to Henri Person's personal exhibition. In Aix, the Hotel de Caumont is opening an exhibition on November 8 on the great masters of Japanese art Hokusai, Hiroshige and Utamaro. September is also the month of the “Estivales de l’Immobilier” in Aix.
The Gardanne Film Festival in October is an unmissable event for film buffs.
Spring
Spring in Provence is the time of flowering of its emblematic lavender fields, ferias and the first festivals.
In March the Carrières de Lumière program at Les Baux de Provence is renewed for the whole year, 2020 will be the turn of the great Dalí and Gaudí.
In April, Aix returns to the stage with its Easter Festival which anticipates the Lyric Art Festival in July.
But Easter also corresponds with the Andalusian Festival in Avignon and the famous Ferias in Arles.
Winter
The heart of Provence also beats in winter with a dense cultural program corresponding to Christmas, the main holiday of the Provencal people.
Find the various santon fairs between Aix and Arles and immerse yourself in the Christmas market in the Cours Mirabeau in Aix, the city that breathes its markets.
For photography enthusiasts, "Les Rencontres d'Arles" is there in December, while January is a good time to visit "Ecce homo" the Ernest Pignon-Ernest exhibition at the Palais des Papes in 'Avignon until February 29, 2020.
